week 3

The third week of my internship at the Miami-Dade Military Museum began with creating a QR code sheet for the museum. The museum received a call regarding our yelp page having too few reviews. I set up a QR code sheet for the welcome center of the museum so visitors could provide reviews of the museum on yelp. After I made the QR code sheet, I had to print out a hard copy. I then made a hard copy of the survey sheet I completed last week. Once I made a hard copy of the museum's survey,  I had to help the museum prepare a display of their military jeep. The museum wanted the jeep to be positioned outside for the mayor of Miami-Dade County, Daniella Levine Cava, because she was giving a speech near the museum. The military jeep was very old so we had to get it re-started and make sure that everything worked smoothly. After a few tries, we got the jeep to work and we set up a sign for the mayor on the jeep. Lastly, we scouted for an area by the museum to place the the jeep.

After this, I was shown by a museum staff member how to give a tour of the first story of the museum. The museum has many exhibits with dates and information that are important to refer to when providing a tour. The museum also has a handbook that provides descriptions of the many photographs and displays in the museum. I have been given a tour of the museum by three different staff members. Although the information is the same, each museum staff member has their own unique way of presenting the museum to their audience.

During this week, the museum gave a tour to over 20 students from a local school and they also gave a tour to a local society of over 30 members. The museum staff separated the visiting students into groups and provided tours to each group of students. The tour normally takes between 30 minutes to an hour. After the tour at the museum, one of the staff members was having difficulty connecting the PowerPoint presentation with the museum's television. After trial and error, we eventually realized that the computer mouse was not working correctly. The museum staff member was eventually able to set up the museum's PowerPoint for the visiting group.

Following this, I helped locate pictures and documents related to a fallen soldier from Vietnam. The soldier's name was Louis Carricarte and he was shot down during the Vietnam War. He was a co-polit and died in action over the jungles in Vietnam. The museum would like to set up a display regarding his service in the Vietnam exhibit of the museum. Carricarte was born and raised in Miami-Dade County and served in the Vietnam War. Hopefully in the coming weeks, we will be able to set up more information regarding his service. This will offer a proper display of honor to his service in the military. Lastly, I had to help clean up the museum. The carpet needed to be vacuumed in order to look presentable for new visitors. This concludes my third week at the Miami-Dade Military Museum.
