Week 4

My fourth week at the museum started by joining a group tour that was being given to students from a local school. The school has a club titled, the Patriot Club. The club wanted to visit the museum because it is a military based club, and the instructor of the club was in the United States Navy.

On March 29th, the museum will be handing out Vietnam commemoration pins for the National Vietnam War Veterans' Day. Currently the museum is also handing out these pins to visitors who were in the Vietnam War, or who had family members in the Vietnam War. Two people from the school tour were given pins for their relatives. It was nice to see the Patriot Club members from the local school because it was the same school I attended for high school.

After the museum tour, I was notified that one of the museum staff members would be leaving the museum this week. The staff member that is leaving manages the museum's social media. She taught me how to assemble flyers and print them out for the museum's public events. Aside from using mail chimp and social media to invite people to the museum's public events, the museum prints and makes custom flyers for these events. Many people hear about the museum through the internet and online. In the upcoming weeks, I will be more active with the museum's social media platforms and flyer distribution. It is important that the museum's telephone is working properly, so that people can call and ask about the museum if they have questions or concerns. The museum is still working on setting up an online banking account. The company the museum wants to set up the account with is titled, "Square." The museum needs this account to charge admission, because many people who visit the museum do not carry cash.

Later, I was shown how to organize the flyers. Afterwards, I helped the museum gather supplies for an Open House. On Saturday, the museum will be joining other businesses at a local park for an Open House. At the Open House, companies will set up demonstrations of their organization. The Open House will consist of setting up a tent and a display for people to discover and learn about the museum. The museum reaches out to people by partnering with other organizations and events. The museum tries to establish good social connections with the local community. They also host and participate in local activities.

In addition to arranging the items for the Open House, a family from Belgium wanted to have a tour of the museum. A member of the family was in the Belgium Navy, so he wanted a tour of the museum's exhibits. The following day, the museum wanted me to attend a JROTC pass-in-review event. The museum works closely with Navy sea cadets, JROTC groups, and the Boy Scouts of America. The JROTC pass-in-review event consisted of over 4,000 JROTC high school students who were assembled to perform marching orders and a ceremony.

A short video clip of the JROTC pass-in-review, is located below.
